“How are you feeling P? Are you mentally prepared for this?” Christy asked as she watched Persia struggle to button her blouse.

She knew that her friend was a mess. She wanted Persia to get all her nervousness out before they went to court. Christy knew that if Damien sensed any apprehension in Persia, that he’d latch onto it and say whatever he needed to say to get Persia back.

“She's fine or at least she will be once this no-good man is officially out of her life.” Claudette said as she finished the buttons that Persia’s shaky hands couldn't get.

“Honestly, I'm not OK.” Persia said as she wiped the tears that were forming in her eyes. “I am getting ready to walk away from the person I've been with ever since I was twelve years old. How do I walk away from nineteen years like it never meant shit to me?” She asked.

“You walk away by putting your left foot in front of your right foot and moving forward with your head held high.” Claudette said seriously.

Christy burst out laughing at her response. “Mrs. Claudette you play too much. Persia’s a mess and you’re making jokes.” She said shaking her head.

“I’m dead ass serious? Princess P, if what I said came off as insensitive, I apologize. You know I can’t hold my tongue sometimes. But baby this is not your burden to bear. You were a phenomenal wife, and before you were a phenomenal wife, you were a phenomenal friend.

You gave Damien everything you had to give. I will admit that Damien was not my favorite person after you lost your baby because of him giving you an STD, I wasn’t really on Team Damien.

But because you guys were still young, I tried to forgive that indiscretion because I knew what it was like to be a teenager. But after taking your college funds I was through with his trifling ass. You had already lost too much because of him and he was acting so ungrateful.” Claudette admitted as she ran her fingers through her daughters long soft hair.

“I understand what you’re saying Ma, but you know I gave him that money freely. I believed in his dream and it paid off. I don’t regret my decision to give him the startup money for Opulent. I regret how things turned out. I love him so much and I just think…”

“Let me stop you right there, Princess P.” Claudette said as she held her hand up signaling that she wanted nothing but silence. “Honey, I know that he's the only man that you’ve ever been with and I know how much you love him. But just because you're still in love with him doesn't mean that you have to stay with him. I didn't raise you to be anybody's fool.

You are a brilliant young woman and mother and one day you’ll find someone that is as genuine as you are, but Damien Jordan ain’t it. Now dry your eyes because we aren't shedding tears for people that intentionally fucked our lives up.
